Welcome to my guide to worldbuilding. A long time ago I have created a small journal that I attempted to sell on Etsy. This journal took you through the steps of creating a world from scratch. I decided during one of the late nights with my 9-month-old daughter that I would remake it. The guide was vague, and I have new information for it.

So I would like to introduce you to the new guide for worldbuilding. This series of blog posts and videos are designed to be blueprint for your fantasy world. You can take the free printable lists and expand as you need it. Print as many pages as you need and rearrange as necessary. I will be working through this as an example, sharing the D&D homebrew setting that is slowly mutating into a novel setting.

This guide will include:

  • Maps

  • Economics

  • Ecosystems

  • Government

  • Culture

  • Developing a Magic System

I’m so excited to be sharing my personal process of creating believable worlds. My process has been taken from everywhere. I was greatly inspired by JRR Tolkien, JK Rowling, SC Lewis to name a few. They great influenced my childhood and have helped me be where I am today. Each section will have its own video, blog post and free printable. These guides and printable will also be collected and refined at a later date. Possibly a guide you can purchase? Not sure, we’ll get to that eventually. I will be sharing my favorite free resources for books as they relate to each section.

Before we begin with the first week I want to give you a list of optional supplies you’ll need. I will be providing the lists that good with the lessons, but extras never hurt anyone. Unless its extra jalapenos on your nachos, then that hurts. I suggest a binder or note book to hold your printed lists, pens or pencils, sticky notes, high lighters and my personal favorite glitter gel pens. Because who doesn’t love 90s nostalgia when taking notes.

I can’t wait to get started. Until next time, thank you for visiting the cottage adventurers.
